Little Courage to a Child

Courage is a little child.
Fighting little soldiers learning and growing,
as life gets tougher.
Not knowing when to give up,
when the end is far, far away.

They have endless obstacles to face,
in the limited about of time.
Jumping over challenges as if they are walls.
It is courage in those children,
to let them grow and know who they are.

As time calls for the little toddlers,
they leave their mothers nest.
Now staring at the wall,
without any guidance.
It may be seem impossible,
It will be seem impossible,
until they go for their one last jump.

Loneliness

Moved to foreign island.

Surrounded by strangers,

Isolated by language.

Always humiliated by race and culture.

Foreign life, lonely life,

Alone, Depressing, Ruined.

Ed's Thinking

     It all begins like this. A thief robbing a bank, yelling to fill his bag with the money. Ed and Marv as usual arguing about Marv's car, even during a robbery. Once the bag is filled with the money, the thief tries to run off until he realizes he is surrounded by cops. However, the cops has no idea what on earth is going on and waits until something happens. The thief has no way to escape until he over hears Ed and Marvs argument. The thief forces Marv to hand over his car key and tries his best to run to the car unnoticed. As the thief ran, he dropped his gun wide open. All of sudden, "I run out, picking up the gun along the way. When I cross the road, I lock eyes with the gunman. He attempts to get out of the car, but it's too late for that. . . He tries to get out and run, and I sear I have no idea I'm firing the gun until I've stepped toward him and hear the glass shatter" (Zusak 18). How does one have the guts to pick up a gun and shoot, as if it was nothing. Ed has never held a gun before or has seen a gun. All of sudden, he becomes expert with guns? This fascinated me, how some boring teenager can turn into a hero.

     After receiving the card and accomplishing two out of three mission, Ed now has to deal with the 45 Edgar Street. Before Ed decides to go finish his first card, he is sent a pistol with one bullet. Ed plans to drunk Angelia's father with vodka and finish him with one bullet. This is where I think things get interested. After Ed drunks the man, Ed aims and shoots way off of the man. He lets the man to live, expecting for him to change. Even though his mission was to finish the unworthy man and even after seeing him rape his wife, Ed gave he man another chance.

   

     Charles Darnay is a caring, loving, and responsible character. However, he is still a great mystery. In A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, it quotes "He had loved Lucie Manette from the hour of his danger. He had never heard a sound so sweet and dear as the sound of her compassion ate voice:" (Dickens 100). Darnay truly loves Lucie so much, he wants to marry her. He has a heart to care and love for someone else. Darnay knew Dr. Manette and Lucie's relationship was so great that he asked Dr. Manette for the permission and even promised Dr. Manette. "I could not retain no place in it against her love for her father." (Dickens 103). Darnay promised Dr. Manette, if he were to marry Lucie, he would not interrupt their relationship. "Sir, we have done wrong, and are reaping the fruits of wrong" (Dickens 94). Darnay knows his family holds dept and fault, while his uncle does not admit it. For this reason, Darnay goes by fake identity, Charles Darnay. Darnay still posses great mysteries that soon will be discovered.  

Light and Dark

     In the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens set a gloomy and optimistic tone between Lucie and Dr. Manette's relationship, using light and darkness. Dickens quoted "A broad ray of light fell into the garret, and showed the workman with an unfinished shoe open his lap," (Dickens 30). Dickens refers Lucie as light. As she enters the garret, hope and peace follows her. In the other hand, the workman, Dr. Manette, is lost and disturbed by something he does not wish. Lucie takes his fear away and fill him with memories.

     "He had put up a hand between his eyes and the light, and the very bones of it seemed transparent." (Dickens 30). The light was something Dr. Manette has missed for 18 years. During the period of jail, Dr. Manette lost his memories of his light, his wife. When he sees the same light once again, he starts to remember. However, the light was too young and but it was same. Memories started to come back and without a warning, darkness fell upon him.

     "Darkness had fallen on him in its place. He looked at the two, less and less attentively, and his eyes in gloomy abstraction sought the ground and looked about him in the old way." (Dickens 32). Hope did not exist anymore. Dr. Manette started to remember but ended up worsening everything. Nothing seemed to be joyful to him. Then, he just stopped everything and went back to work, on the female shoe.

     Lucie, with her light, set the tone optimistic in the end between her and her father's relationship.

"The Wine-Shop"

     In the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens foreshadowed of how poor and hungry the people of France are. Dickens quoted "A LARGE cask of wine had been dropped and broken, in the street. . . All the people within reach had suspended their business, or their idleness, to run to the spot and drink the wine." (Dickens 20). The people of France are desperate and hungry. Whenever there is a chance, the citizens will rush to the free source of food and sink it down to their stomach. No matter how disgusting and awful the food is, they have no other choice but to eat or drink it, in order to survive.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            "A shrill sound of laughter and of amused voices-voices of men, women and children-resounded in the street while this wine game lasted." (Dickens 21). As it is, it is very humiliating to drink filthy wine from the ground. But what can these poor do? They do can not eat what they want, nor do they eat daily bases. While the wealthy folks have anything they desire, the poor has nothing but agony.

     "The wine was red wine, and had stained the ground of the narrow street in the suburb of Saint Antoine, in Paris, where is was spilled. . . and one tall joker so besmirched, his head more out of a long squalid bag of a night-cap than in it, scrawled upon a wall with his fingers dipped in muddy wine-less-BLOOD." (Dickens 21-22). They were so desperate, the poor did not mind blood dripping out of their. Food was much more important then their own body because it was very limited for them. They were ready to offer anything they have for food, even their body.

Importance of Family

     Family is group of people who  will continuously love and support you til the last moment. It does not matter whether you live under the same roof, or have the same blood. It is the relationship that is between you and the other person. Families provide love, support, and value that can never be found outside.

     In the essay, Stone Soup, Kingsolver quoted "This might be worse than being widowed. Overnight I've suffered the same losses-companionship, financial and practical support," (Kingsolver 203). "But instead of bringing casseroles, people are acting like I had a fit and broke up the family china." (Kingsolver 203). These two quote explains how the author suffered great metal pain and her losses. People started to judge her as failure and even called her daughter the "child of divorce." Kingsolver truly regrets her ignorant choice, because she knew that divorcing with her husband was an easy way out of marital problems. She put her own satisfaction ahead of her family. When one family member fails, then the whole family would collapses. However, when Kingsolver divorced, her family became stronger. With the love and support, Kingsolver and her daughter was able to overcome the fear of the losses being a widow and strengthen relationship in her family.

     A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Smith writes how the Nolan family overwhelm any trouble, together.
When Johnny passes away, the great depression came upon the Nolans. Katie knew Johnny's death was right at the corner, and she had to be the mother and father of three fatherless children. Katie quoted "From now on, I am your mother and your father." (Smith 299). Later on, Katie was pregnant for the last time and gave the Nolans hardship. The baby interfered with many things, such as Katie's job, and forced Francie and Neeley to work. McGarrity quoted "we could use your girl. NO hard work, you understand, just making the eds and washing a few dishes. I could use the boy downstairs, peeling eggs and cutting cheese into hunks."

      As time went by, their trouble only became success. Francie was hired at a newspaper company and earned more money than her father once did. Also, Francie went to summer school and was selected to go to a college. Then, Katie married Mr. Mcshane and gave Lauria an easy life. Nothing seemed to go wrong at this point. The Nolans have become poor to rich, together, and proceeded their dreams.

     Family is the most important element in life. Family should be something special to you. Family should be something that keeps you motivated, determined, and active. Family should be not people who you live with but the people who pushed you to be who you are right now.
